Comenius meeting

On October 17th we received the visit of 8 teachers from our partner schools in the new Comenius Project, NEAR.

At the weekend we toured the medieval quarter of the city, Lekeitio, Oma wood and Gernika.

On Monday our choir and traditional dancers prepared a nice reception and some of our students took the teachers on a guided tour of the school. We held a meeting to make more detailed plans for the project and see the beginnings of the project web page.

On Tuesday we accompanied Primary class 5B to the Visitors’ Centre of the Gorbeia Natural Park to share in a guided visit prepared by the monitors. In the afternoon the teachers stayed with the class to see their follow-up work.

On Wednesday there were talks about the 3 schools, their towns and countries for the students of 5th and 6th grade. We visited the Centre for Environmental Studies in Olarizu and the Salburua Park. In the afternoon we planted 4 trees to serve as a reminder of the visit and went on a guided tour of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Thursday was a free day for our guests and we enjoyed a farewell dinner.

We think our partners have really enjoyed themselves and we have learned a lot about each other. The only bad news was the illness of Maria, one of the Finnish teachers, who had to be admitted to hospital, but she was able to return to Finland on Monday, November 3rd.

We are really looking forward to carrying out the project, in which all of our Primary school is taking part, and we hope for two fruitful and interesting years.

We have had the help and support of a lot of people, too many to name here, but we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Mila esker!
